We're having Auditions!
When?
Spring 2006, Week 2, April 12/13 Wed./Thur. from 8pm -10pm
Where?
Ackerman Viewpoint Conference Room (UCLA)
How do I prepare?
It's easy! Just bring a short monologue, memorized or not. If that's too
much, then don't bother even with that and just show up and we'll provide you
with something to read from. The purpose of auditions is not to select cast
members - you already have a part just for showing up! - but to get to know
you. Level of acting experience does not influence the part you get (big or
small). You will never be evaluated or scored. Many people who have never
acted before begin with us. Our auditions are relaxed and low stress.
Will I get a part? I don't know if I can take
rejection!
No worries! Everyone who auditions gets a part. No experience is necessary.
We're about having fun and meeting new people. If you've never acted before,
you're more than encoraged to come to our auditions.
What is a scene night?
A scene night consists of an ensamble of scenes from Shakespeare plays
that are combined to make an entire two hour show. Each scene has its own
cast, own director, and own rehearsal times. Generally the scenes are from
Shakespeare plays, but we're open to other literature as well. Our
performances are free and open to the general public. Invite your friends and
family to come and watch you perform!
But I'm not a theatre major!
Really? That's great! Did you know this club was founded by an astrophysicist?
Theatre majors are of course always welcome, but we're especially set up for
students, staff, and faculty that don't often get a chance to act. We're a
group committed to inclusion, not exclusion.
What about the time commitment?
Generally, cast members meet once a week for a few hours, though
occiaisionally, you may be asked to come twice in a week. Your director will
discuss rehearsal times with you and your fellow cast members. We know
everyone has school, work, and other things going on, so that's why rehearsal
times are flexible, and directors are undrstanding.
Other than that, there are only two mandatory meetings in the whole quarter
that we ask our performers and directors to attend. The first meeting will be
held for an hour during week 3 of Spring quarter. This is where all
the directors and actors will meet and learn more about our activities for the
quarter as well as ask any questions they have. The second meeting is our
dress rehearsal, which will be at the end of the quarter, within a few days of
the actual performance. This is where we coordinate all the scenes and
practice for opening night.
When and where do you perform?
Performance will be at the end of Spring quarter, before finals week. We
have two performances on two nights and a dress rehearsal in advance. Our
performances are on campus and in the evening. For Spring we will be
performing in Kerckhoff Grand Salon. You will know the dates and time of the performance and dress
rehearsal weeks in advance.
Are there fees to worry
about?
No! Absolutely Not. There are no fees and you are
in no way responsible for funding performances. Participation is free. Anytime
you would pay is if you wanted to participate in an optional activity, like a
field trip to a play or dinner party, but that's up to
you.
What other activities do you sponser?
We are proud to annouce that we will be having regular movie nights as
well as regular Shakespeare readings where plays are read in a group. In
Spring there will be at least one field trip to a Renaissance Fair (costumes
available to borrow on request!) These
gatherings are free. It's a
great chance to brush up on your Shakespeare or just hang out and have a good
time. All activities are optional, and everyone is invited. Even if you don't
audition and aren't planning to perform with us this quarter, you're still
welcome to attend our other activities and you can bring friends with you as
well. The schedule of events will be posted after audtions.
We look forward to seeing you this Spring!
